Co Do
Co Do is one of Boston’s best-kept secrets. Recently opened on Dorchester Avenue in Fields Corner, this restaurant is a great place to get high-quality Vietnamese food in a comfortable atmosphere. The warm, dark wood trim, the tastefully placed art and the many live plants give a sense of quiet elegance not common in many other inexpensive eating establishments. Co Do specializes in Vietnamese cuisine from the central region of Vietnam—historically the region with the richest and most complex food due to it being the seat of the nobility. This is reflected in both their wide selection of dishes to satisfy any palate and their presentation of the food; each dish has a subtle, decorative edge to it.
The restaurant cooks such culinary Asian staples as Pad Thai, spring rolls, varieties of Pho noodle soup and rice plates. Other notable offerings include a very rich Shrimp in Lemongrass Sauce, Shrimp Paste on Sugarcane, and a sweet and flaky Vietnamese crepe, an appetizer that’s really a meal unto itself. For the adventureous diner, Co Do has a number of exotic choices in their specialities menu, including Fried or Steamed Whole Fish, Stir Fried Eel and Stir Fried Goat.
While you’re there, try some of the drinks as well. To cool off, get an iced coffee with condensed milk or one of their many fruit smoothies, such as rich apple custard. Vegetarians and people with allergies needn’t worry; the chef is very accommodating and is willing to change a dish to fit preference and diet. Whether for lunch, dinner, take out or just drinks, Co Do has a wide and versatile menu that will entertain the eyes and please the palate.

Co Do is easily accessible from the Fields Corner T Station on the Ashmont branch of the Red Line. Just head out to the Dorchester Ave. side of the T stop and make a left on Dorchester Avenue. Continue down the road about a quarter of a mile. The restaurant is on your left.
